England international Wilson recently returned from a hamstring problem which saw him miss several weeks of Premier League football. He has featured in the last three matches off the bench.

Wilson made his return from a hamstring problem in the 2-1 away win over relegation rivals Burnleyas a substitute and he has played subsequent games against West Ham United (home) and Liverpool (away) as a substitute.

Newcastle United manager Bruce was asked about the fitness of Wilson in his pre-match press conference on Friday for the Arsenal game and he was certain that the former Bournemouth striker is fit to start against the Gunners this weekend. According to him, Wilson showed that he has completely recovered from his hamstring woes with the burst of pace shown when he came off the bench to help the Magpies rescue a point in the last league at Liverpool.

Bruce and his Newcastle United players have flirted with the relegation zone for the better part of the second half of this Premier League campaign but a run of four games without defeat and eight points to show from those games has seen them move nine points clear of the relegation zone with five games left to play.

The Magpies need just seven points from the final five games to secure Premier League football for another season mathematically. A win over Arsenal will take them closer to that target.
